Minutes of the meeting of the officers of the North Texas Chapter of the SWCS.

The retiring and newly elected officers of the North Texas Chapter of the SWCS met Jan. 3, 2007 at 2:00PM in the CNTSC conference room. The purpose of the meeting was to allow the retiring officers to share their experiences with the new officers to ensure a smooth transition. Attending were:
Emil Horvath, President
            Romy Myszka, retiring President-elect
            David Buland, retiring Treasurer
            Cheryl Simmons, President-elect
            Kristi McKinley, Treasurer
            Steve Brady, Secretary President

Horvath opened the meeting. The national SWCS annual meeting is scheduled for July 21-25, 2007 in Tampa, FL. The Texas Council of Chapters meeting is in Brian the week of June 11th.

David Buland noted that the chapter has a $5,000 CD coming due on Feb. 1st and that we have a $2,000 scholarship obligation during June. It was agreed that we should keep at least $1k in available funds for possible conservation projects and Chapter activities. Discussion on the Chapter web presence: Cheryl Simmons offered to follow-up on what will be needed to update the chapter web site. Donna Beggs, volunteer, offered to develop a web site for the Chapter. The SWCS National office has a similar service for a fee. Cheryl mentioned that the National chapter uses a free web hosting service for not-for-profit organizations. Cheryl will assemble some of the available options and present a package solution to the Chapter officers.

President Horvath proposed 3 meetings for the chapter this year, spring, summer, and fall, with the summer meeting organized as a family picnic. Everyone agreed to that.

Romy Myszka offered to follow up with other organizations affiliated with conservation activities to explore the possibility of joint meetings, or to share program activities. He also offered to follow up with Van Kosak of the EPA on the possibility of a joint meeting.

Kristi McKinley suggested that we consider having a membership drive this year possibly centered on a family activity and offering prizes for new members such as tickets to a Rangers game. She will evaluate chapter finances, estimate the potential cost of this activity and report back to the board.

The next meeting of the officers is scheduled for February 6th at 2:00 PM in the CNTSC conference room.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:50PM. Steve Brady Secretary
